Faculty of Basic Science

1. History of foundation and development

Faculty of Basic Science (FBS), formerly Department of Basic Science under Faculty of Information Technology – Thai Nguyen University, was established under Decision No. 87/QD-TCCB dated February 09, 2006. The leaders of the first generation were Dr. Vu Duc Thai – Head of Department​, and Dr. Truong Ha Hai and Dr. Le Xuan Quang –  two Vice Heads.

In 2011, along with the event that Faculty of Information Technology was upgraded to University of Information and Communication Technology, FBS was established under Decision No. 802/QD-ĐHTN dated August 11, 2011. At that time, Dr. Vu Vinh Quang was the Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Vu Duc Thai and Dr. Truong Ha Hai were the Vice Deans of the Faculty.

2. Functions and tasks 

FBS is in charge of teaching general knowledge as the foundation for specialized courses. In addition, FBS is also assigned the task of training to meet the foreign language output standards for students of the whole university. Scientific research activities of the Faculty also have remarkable achievements. Every year, academic staff have scientific publications in prestigious and high-quality domestic and international journals.

The Faculty has made active contributions to moral education, political ideology education, culture, art, physical training and sports for students. Many movement activities of the Faculty have become a tradition and highlight for the whole university with many awards and high achievements.

3. Structure and academic staff

 In the early days of establishment, the Faculty had 04 departments: Department of Natural Sciences; Department of Foreign Languages; Department of Physical Education; and Department of Political Theory. In 2013, Department of Vietnamese language and skill development was established. Currently, the Faculty has 04 departments.

The Faculty currently has a total of 42 staff members, including 41 lecturers and 01 staff. 100% of faculty members have master degrees or doctoral degrees, ensuring good training requirements of the university. The lecturers and staff always keep in mind that they will promote the achieved results, build a tradition of solidarity, overcome existing difficulties, and successfully complete all assigned tasks. After 20 years of striving for growth, FBS has grown with the development of the university.
