Vietnamese courses for foreigners

Center for Informatics, Foreign Languages and Training on Demand is a training and service unit under Thai Nguyen University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU). The center located in ICTU campus is authorized by ICTU to organize fostering courses in informatics and languages. We are pleased to inform partners the updates information about the Vietnamese courses and service supports as follow: 

I. Vietnamese courses

The center offers various non-degree Vietnamese courses for foreigners:

  1. Communicative Vietnamese 1 (Equivalent to A1 level of CEFR)

– Teaching hours: 100 hours and self-study hours.

– Pre-requisite course: None

– Course objectives and descriptions: Communicative Vietnamese 1 is aimed at providing learners with very basic knowledge about linguistics aspects of Vietnamese like pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar at the beginner level. The course includes 8 units covering such topics as Personal information, Jobs, Countries and Nationalities, People, Places, Things and Objects…. Learners can gradually develop their language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through out various learning activities such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, role-play and presentation. The course also incorporates culture knowledge into curriculum and field-trips so that learners can develop their cultural competence and embed into Vietnamese society to communicate appropriately when living in Vietnam. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and use familiar language structures; know how to use basic words to meet specific communication needs such as introducing yourself and others; presenting information about yourself such as: where you live, relatives/friends and others. Learners can carry out simple communication if the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to cooperate and help.  

  1. Communicative Vietnamese 2 (Equivalent to A2 level of CEFR)

– Teaching hours: 120 hours 

– Pre-requisite course: Communicative Vietnamese 1

– Course objectives and descriptions: Communicative Vietnamese 2 course is aimed at providing learners with knowledge about linguistics aspects of Vietnamese like pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar at the elementary level. The course includes 12 units covering such topics as Studies, Transport, Shopping, Family, Weather, Telephoning, Dates and Time…. Learners can gradually develop their language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through out various learning activities such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, role-play and presentation. The course also incorporates culture knowledge into curriculum and field-trips so that learners can develop their cultural competence and embed into Vietnamese society to communicate appropriately when living in Vietnam. By the end of the course, learners will be able to understand frequently used sentences and language structures related to basic communication needs such as exchanging information about family and themselves, shopping, asking for and giving directions, describing people and personalities, asking and answering information about seasons and weather, comparing things and people. Learners can carry conversation and exchange information on simple and familiar everyday topics.

  1. Communicative Vietnamese 3 (Equivalent to B1 level of CEFR)

– Teaching hours: 150 hours and self-study hours.

– Pre-requisite course: Communicative Vietnamese 2

– Course objectives and descriptions: Communicative Vietnamese 3 is aimed at continuing providing learners with knowledge about linguistics aspects of Vietnamese like pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar at the pre-intermediate level. The course includes 12 units covering such topics as Immigration Procedures, Hotels, Restaurants, Services, Hobbies and Preference, Free time, Friendship, Guest Reception…. Learners can develop their language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through out various learning activities such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, role-play and presentation. The course also incorporates culture knowledge into curriculum and field-trips so that learners can develop their cultural competence and embed into Vietnamese society to communicate appropriately when living in Vietnam. By the end of the course, learners will be able to understand the main ideas of a clear, standard passage or speech on familiar topics in work, school, or leisure; to write simple passages related to familiar or personal topics of interest; and to describe experiences, events, desires, and briefly state their reasons, opinions, and plans. Leaners can handle most communication situations that occur upon arrival where Vietnamese is spoken.

  1. Communicative Vietnamese 4 (Equivalent to B2 level of CEFR)

– Teaching hours: 200 hours and self-study hours.

– Pre-requisite course: Communicative Vietnamese 3

– Course objectives and descriptions:  Communicative Vietnamese 4 course is aimed at continuing providing learners with knowledge about linguistics aspects of Vietnamese like pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar at the upper-intermediate level. The course includes 20 units covering such topics as Health, Visits, Sport, Transport, Cities, Entertainment, Education, Travelling, Music, Environment, Jobs…. Learners can develop their language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through out various learning activities such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, discussion, role-play and presentation. The course also incorporates culture knowledge into curriculum and field-trips so that learners can develop their cultural competence and embed into Vietnamese society to communicate appropriately when living in Vietnam. By the end of the course, learners will be able to understand the main ideas of a relatively complex text on a wide range of topics, including discussions in one’s own area of expertise; to communicate fluently and naturally with Vietnamese people; to write clear and detailed texts on many different topics and state their point of view on an issue, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

  1. Vietnamese for Specific Purpose

Beside the communicative courses, we also offer Vietnamese courses for Specific Purpose such as Vietnamese for Business and Trade; Vietnamese for Tourism; Vietnamese for Information and Communication Technology; Vietnamese Studies upon the learners’ demand. In order to apply to these course, students are required to possess a command of Vietnamese at B2 level (CEFR).

II. Services

To assist learners so that they can have achieve their goals and desires, we also offer the following service supports:

– Setting up and organize short-term and long-term training programs of Vietnamese for foreigners depending on the requirements of organizations and individuals.

– Carrying out field trips or fact-finding tours on Vietnamese language and culture; organize learning exchange activities.

– Supporting to renew visa, recommending houses and other services for learners.

– Providing staff and volunteers to work as tutors to assist learners in Vietnamese language practice.

– Translating document from English to Vietnamese and vice versa.

Notes:

– Based on learner’s ability and demand, education time can be increased or decreased. Tuition is calculated according to actual education time.

– Learners have to comply strictly the schedules, teaching programs and regulations of the university and center.

– Tuition includes the fee for processing documents and assistance to apply for visa but does not include visa fee.

– Depending on the training plans, the existing class can be added more students for more convenient management and tuition reduction.

– During the study time at ICTU, students can be invited to take part in some programs and activities organized by ICTU. Those taking part in these activities, their tuition can be reduced equivalent to each programs and activity.
