1. History of formation and development

Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), formerly Department of Automatic Control Technology, was established under the Decision No. 610/QD-TCCB dated September 27, 2006 of the President of Thai Nguyen University with the assigned task of participating in training and scientific research. On September 12, 2011, the President of Thai Nguyen University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Kim Vui signed Decision No. 802/QD-ĐHTN on establishing Faculty of Automation Technology.

On February 6, 2017, the Rector of University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) signed the decision No. 68/QD-DHCNTT&TT on merging Department of Automotive Technology and Sensor Systems (under the university) into Faculty of Automation Technology.

2. Functions and tasks

FAT performs the task of training a master major in Control Engineering and Automation; training undergraduate and top-up programmes in 02 majors: Control Engineering and Automation Technology; Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology with the goal of training engineers to serve the process of economic and technological development in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country. Since the beginning of the training mission, FAT has had more than 700 full-time graduates with 02 majors. Currently, the total number of students of all programmes is about 450 students.

3. Academic staff and employees

FAT has 30 lecturers, in which seven lecturers hold doctoral degree, 21 lecturers hold master degree and two lecturers are PhD students. Currently, the Faculty has three departments. The departments are responsible for undertaking specialized courses and specialized basic courses, which are Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology; Control Engineering and Automation Technology; and Automotive Technology and Intelligent Transportation.
