Lao students in university of information and communication technology
To continue implementing cooperation program in training between Vientiane – Hanoi Friendship Vocational and Technical College and University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU), in the academic year 2014 – 2015, ICTU has provided admissions and welcomed more 22 Lao students to the university, which increases the total number of Lao students studying in ICTU to over 30 students, of whom there are four graduate students. The University Board has directed the functional divisions, faculties and departments, and lecturers to create favorable conditions for Lao students in studying and living in the university.
As soon as having been arranged the accommodations, Lao students have taken part in a Vietnamese course. Due to linguistic difference, those students encounter a lot of difficulties in learning Vietnamese. To help these students overcome the situation and integrate quickly into new environment, except for formal classes, the lecturers and the Executive Committee of Youth Union of associated branch of Faculty of Basic Sciences also appointed students and union members to help these Lao students revise their lessons at the dormitory. Although staying in Vietnam is not so long, the sentiment of students and Vietnamese students has become very close-knit. The class organization, Association of Lao Students establishment in the university, and directions for head teachers of classes with Lao students have been completed. The rooms for Lao students in the dorm are interspersed with those for Vietnamese students, which helps Lao students have more opportunities to exchange, learn and share culture and language with Vietnamese students.
In addition to that, the Executive Committee of the Youth Union and Student Association also create conditions for Lao students to be involved in cultural, music, sports activities in the university. One of the sports activities which numerous Lao students like and participate in is playing football. The football teams of the youth union branches frequently organize football games and invite Lao students to participate in or practice together. In the music festival of Faculty of Basic Sciences to celebrate such important holidays as Vietnam Women’s Day on 20 October, Vietnam Teachers’ Day on 20 November, and the opening ceremony of the academic year, the Lao students registered to perform two items. In addition, a number of old students bravely participate in Presentation Club.
It can be said that in spite of difficulties, with the spirit of overcoming difficulties, the help and favorable created conditions of the university and Vietnamese friends, Lao students are integrating very well into the common activities. In the future, it is expected that Lao students can learn Vietnamese better to complete the courses in Vietnam with the best results so that when returning the home country these students will become useful citizens, the pride of the country, and create a better image of the Vietnam-Laos friendship.
