International Symposium on GIS and Advanced Technologies 2014

In the morning of 03 November, 2014, University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) – Thai Nguyen University in collaboration with Feng Chia University (FCU) – Taiwan held the opening ceremony of the International Symposium on GIS and Advanced Technologies 2014 (GISATS 2014).

Attending the opening ceremony of the symposium, there were Mr. Quach Phung Dieu – Counsellor of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Viet Vam, Mr. Nhu Van Tam – Member of Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen People’s Committee; Prof. Dr. Dang Kim Vui – President of Thai Nguyen University; Prof. Dr. Lee Bing Jean – President of Feng Chia University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ta Duc Thinh, Director General of Department of Science, Technology and Environment representing for Ministry of Education and Training; Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen – Deputy Director General of Department of Information Technology, Mr. Dinh Quang Trung – Deputy Director General of Department of Science and Technology under Ministry of Information and Communications; and Col. Dr. Vu Van Chat – Director General of Department of Mapping, General Staff, Ministry of National Defense. As for Feng Chia University, there were 16 scientists as presenters at sub-sessions. The symposium also received the attention and participation of scientists from Information Technology Institute and University of Technology under Vietnam National University, Hanoi and scientists, managers from domestic and foreign universities and research institutes.

As for ICTU, there were University Board and leaders of divisions, faculties, departments, centers and lecturers, researchers of ICTU and of the other universities.

Addressing at the symposium, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Viet Binh stressed,“ICTU has identified that the research and development of GIS applications is one of the key tasks of the university. The university has obtained initial success in research and development of GIS and GPS applications as well as combined GIS with other fields. The International Symposium on GIS and Advanced Technologies at ICTU this time not only is a forum for domestic and foreign scientists to share their research experiences and deployment in the fields of GIS, GPS, remote sensing and climate change response and sustainable agro-forestry development, but also is a good opportunity for young researchers, PhD candidates and graduate students to exchange research experiences and seek opportunities for collaboration and learning.”

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ta Duc Thinh – Director General of Department of Science, Technology and Environment, “This symposium is not only a forum for scientists, managers to publish the newest research results and scientific ideas; exchange, discuss and share research experiences and application deployment of ICT in the field of GIS technology, biomedical engineering, climate change response and sustainable agro-forestry development, but also a good opportunity for young scientists, PhD candidates, graduate students to exchange of research experiences and seek opportunities for collaboration and learning.”

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Nhu Van Tam expressed his thanks to the attention and supports of units and individuals to the symposium, and expected the researchers and scientists would actively discuss, exchange, give solutions, and technology applications with practical values to promote the potentials and advantages of Thai Nguyen province in particular and the whole country in general.

Within the symposium programme, the leader of Thai Nguyen University proclaimed the Decision of President of Thai Nguyen University regarding the establishment of GIS.TNU Research Center under Thai Nguyen University. The establishment of the Center promises to produce a number of GIS research and applications with national and regional level, and contributes to the development of Thai Nguyen University to become the key training and research institution of the northern midland mountainous area.
