ICTU welcomed a delegation from University of the Sunshine Coast

University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) welcomed a delegation of experts from University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Australia for a week-long working visit from August 26 to August 31, 2024. The visit has marked an important step forward in the cooperation between the two universities, promising to bring many development opportunities for ICTU students and lecturers.

The 5-member expert delegation was led by Ms. Harriott Tami Breiana, Director of Centre for International Development, Social Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CIDSEL), specialist Macdermott Michael John French, Director of English Language Training Program, and experienced experts from UniSC.

A hectic schedule and diverse activities

The first official working day, August 26, 2024, took place at Thai Nguyen University (TNU) with a meeting between the leaders of TNU, ICTU, and UniSC delegation, creating an opportunity to discuss the long-term cooperation strategy between TNU and UniSC.

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation had a meeting to evaluate the internship results of 11 ICTU students at Vinfast, the Vinfast-UniSC-ADB scholarship program. This event not only evaluated the internship results but also demonstrated the close cooperation relationship between the university, businesses, and international partners in training high-quality human resources.

Culture exchange “Colourful ICTU”

The highlight of August 26 was the international student culture exchange program “Colourful ICTU” in the evening. This event was an opportunity for ICTU students to interact with international experts, students, and interns about their cultural identity. The program attracted the attendance of ICTU student clubs, IAESTE interns, and a large number of international students studying at ICTU, creating a colorful and meaningful night of exchange.

Special English Course: Bridge of Knowledge and Culture

From August 27 to August 31, UniSC experts organized the advanced English course “Language Intensive Study.” It was not simply a language course but a comprehensive program to equip ICTU students with the necessary skills for international integration.

The curriculum has been carefully designed to include:

  • Business communication skills
  • Professional email writing
  • Understanding international business culture
  • English pronunciation and intonation
  • Presentation and meeting skills in English

Specialist Macdermott Michael John French, Director of UniSC’s English Language Training Programme, shared: “We believe that language learning must go hand in hand with cultural understanding. Through this course, we not only help ICTU students improve their English but also equip them with the soft skills needed to integrate into the international working environment confidently.”

Strengthening international cooperation: A strategic move

The visit of the UniSC delegation is part of ICTU’s long-term international cooperation strategy. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia, Rector of ICTU, emphasized, “The cooperation with UniSC not only improves the quality of training but also opens up new opportunities for our students and lecturers in the international academic environment. We consider this an important step in the roadmap to promote ICTU to become a prestigious university in the region and the world.”

At the closing ceremony, the two institutions discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation in the future, including establishing a UniSC-ICTU research group to implement a cooperation project to support and encourage female students to study Science-Technology-Engineering- Mathematics (STEM), proposing a project to support students with disabilities and ethnic minority students, increasing student and lecturer exchanges, and co-organizing international scientific conferences.
