ICTU successfully co-organized the International Scientific Conference ICTA 2024

On November 16-17, 2024, University of Information and Communication Technology – Thai Nguyen University (ICTU) cooperated with Hung Vuong University (HVU) to successfully organize the International Scientific Conference ICTA 2024. This is the third time the conference has been held with the theme “Advances in Information and Communication Technology”, attracting the attention of the domestic and international academic community.

Overview of the conference

Forum connecting international experts and researchers
The conference is a forum for managers, organizations, businesses, technology experts, and scientists in the field of Information and Communication Technology to meet, exchange, and grasp the current situation; introduce research activities and results; seek cooperation opportunities; introduce new technical solutions; and promote the development of Information and Communication Technology applications to serve life. The conference attracted many prestigious partners, such as the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Kyonggi University (South Korea), and MSEUF (Philippines).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia – ICTU Rector giving a speech at the conference.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia, ICTU Rector and the General Co-Chair of ICTA 2024, emphasized the importance of the conference in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the global digital transformation trend. New technology solutions discussed at the conference not only aim to meet the needs of socio-economic development but also focus on environmental impacts in the digital transformation period.
Many contributions in Information and Communication Technology

The Organizing Committee received over 200 high-quality papers with rich content and diverse perspectives.

After nearly 9 months of launching, the conference received 211 submissions from 6 countries and territories, of which 113 excellent articles have been selected to publish in the proceedings of the prestigious Springer publisher; 3 articles have been selected to publish in the Journal of Information and Communication (MIC). The program was professionally organized with two keynote reports and 30 thematic reports, covering many fields, from mathematical foundations in informatics to advanced technology applications.

In the plenary session, the two keynote speakers, Prof. Kwanghoon Pio Kim and Prof. Dr. Ho Tu Bao, both focused on exploiting the importance of applying data analysis methods and process optimization to solve complex business problems.

Prof. Dr. Ho Tu Bao, Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), presented the importance of training in business analytics. He emphasized the importance of training generations of experts capable of focusing on data mining, modeling, and analysis to solve complex problems, ensuring improved business decisions through proficiency with statistical and programming tools (e.g., R and Python).
Regarding business process optimization, Prof. Kwanghoon Pio Kim’s research focuses on process mining to effectively manage the business process lifecycle. He introduced a new method that combines event log data from process management systems to discover complete process models based on the theory of Structured Information Control Nets (SICN) and the 𝜌-Algorithm extension algorithm. The study aims to detect the discrepancy between theoretical and practical process models, thereby helping to reengineer and optimize the process, especially for large-scale and complex processes.

At the conference, delegates focused on exchanging and discussing new issues in ICT

After the plenary session, the conference conducted 30 thematic sessions, with reports on various topics such as image processing, artificial intelligence (AI), bio-informatics, mechatronics and automation, electrical engineering, electronics, and information technology applications in socio-economic development.
About University of Information and Communication Technology

University of Information and Communication Technology has the mission of training human resources at undergraduate and graduate levels, organizing short training courses, conducting scientific research and technology transfers to meet the needs of labour markets, and aligning with the National Development Strategy on Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the National Digital Transformation Programme to serve the economic – cultural – social development of the country.

With strong research potential, including seven research groups, four labs, and one software development center, ICTU affirms its position in applied research and technology transfer. In the past 5 years, the University has successfully implemented three international projects, two state-level projects, 16 ministerial/provincial projects, and ten technology transfer programs. International research capacity is recognized through 316 publications in prestigious international journals and the successful organization of many national and international scientific conferences in the past 3 years.

ICTU’s team of scientists is implementing many research activities, topics, and projects at the state, ministerial, Thai Nguyen University level, and international levels related to important technological issues such as data science, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR), image/video processing, information security, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, and microchip design.
As the Chairman of the Vietnam Association of ICT Faculties-Institutes-Schools-Universities in the Northern Coastal-Midland-Mountainous Region, ICTU is capable of gathering a team of experts in information and communications technology to carry out digital transformation tasks. Some of the main digital transformation activities that ICTU has been cooperating to implement for Thai Nguyen province and the Northern midland and mountainous region:
Implementing many topics and tasks of building digital government: Building online databases, building chatbots to support online public services, supporting the search of administrative and legal documents, etc., training and coaching to improve the level of digital transformation for nearly 1,000 cadres, civil servants and public employees of Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, Lao Cai provinces, etc.;

Implementing many research topics and tasks to develop digital society: Simulating and digitizing cultural heritages and relics, tourist areas in many provinces such as Thai Nguyen (Thanh Nien Xung Phong 915 relic), Dien Bien (Hill A1 relic), Yen Bai (Virtual Reality Museum), Son La (Son La Prison relic), digitally transforming teaching methods, evaluating some pilot English and STEM subjects for some high schools.

Implementing many research topics and tasks of digital economic development: Building e-commerce platforms, toolkits, and solutions to support online business, training thousands of people on e-commerce, and personal brand communication in Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, and Lao Cai.
