ICTU Participated in the 6th Sino-Vietnam Presidents Forum of Universities in the Red River Basin

Hanoi, December 8, 2025 – University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) – Thai Nguyen University took part in the 6th Sino-Vietnam Presidents Forum of Universities in the Red River Basin, held at University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (USSH–VNU). The event marked an important milestone in strengthening academic cooperation among higher education institutions in Viet Nam and China.

Representing ICTU at the Forum was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia, Rector of ICTU, who joined leaders of universities from both countries in discussions on cooperation orientations, academic exchange, and sustainable development in higher education.

The Forum was organized in the context of Viet Nam and China commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950–2025), underscoring the significance of educational and academic exchanges as a foundation for long-term bilateral relations. Co-founded in 2014 by USSH–VNU and Honghe University (China), the Forum has evolved into a key cooperation mechanism promoting scientific research, human resource development, and mutual understanding among universities in the region. In 2025, USSH–VNU served as the host institution, continuing its role in connecting Vietnamese universities with partners in Yunnan Province, China. At this Forum, ICTU officially became a member, further expanding its international academic network.

A major highlight of the program was the signing of cooperation agreements among six universities from Viet Nam and China, including ICTU and Kunming University of Science and Technology. Other participating institutions included Vietnam National University of Forestry and Southwest Forestry University, as well as the International School – Thai Nguyen University and Honghe University. These agreements are regarded as core outcomes of the Forum, contributing to the practical realization of cooperation opportunities and the strengthening of academic networks between the two countries.

Another focal activity was the “Educational Exchange among Red River Basin Universities”, which introduced the diverse academic environments of nearly 30 universities from Viet Nam and China. The activity created favorable conditions for exploring student exchange programs, joint research projects, and collaborative training initiatives across a wide range of disciplines, including social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and technology.

The 6th Sino-Vietnam Presidents Forum of Universities in the Red River Basin was not only a platform for sharing perspectives on higher education cooperation, but also a symbol of the enduring cultural, scientific, and educational ties between Viet Nam and China. Building on the shared historical and cultural values of the Red River Basin, the Forum continues to strengthen academic connectivity, promote high-quality human resource development, and enhance mutual understanding among higher education institutions of the two countries.
