ICTU Promotes Strategic Cooperation with Kyungpook National University (Republic of Korea)

On March 4, 2026, Thai Nguyen University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) welcomed and held a working session with a high-level delegation from Kyungpook National University (KNU), Republic of Korea. KNU is one of the prestigious universities in Korea, currently ranked 3rd globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. This visit and working session once again affirmed the strong cooperative relationship between KNU and ICTU in the fields of education, research, and international academic exchange.

Attending the meeting, the KNU delegation included Dr. Young Woo Heo – President of KNU; Dr. Hee Kyung Choi – Head of Office of International Affairs, Dr. Yi Hak – Deputy Head of Office of International Affairs; Dr. Jin San Kim – Dean of Faculty of Business Administration; Dr. Byung Chul Tak – Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Technology; Mr. Hyunil Park – Secretary to the President; and Mr. Hyun-Woo Lee – Director of the International Cooperation Programs.

Representing Thai Nguyen University was Dr. Nguyen Van Tao – Secretary of the Party Committee of Thai Nguyen University.

From ICTU, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia – Rector; Dr. Nguyen Duy Minh – Vice Rector, together with representatives from Division of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Institute of International Training, Faculty of Economics and Management, Department of E-commerce, and Department of Digital Economy.

During the meeting, the two institutions exchanged and agreed on several important directions for cooperation in the coming period. In particular, the focus will be on promoting the implementation of the 3+1 international joint training program in E-commerce, while also signing an agreement to implement the 3+2 international joint master’s program in Computer Science and Technology. In addition, the two universities discussed expanding cooperation in scientific research, lecturer exchange, and the development of international academic programs, thereby contributing to improving training quality and strengthening higher education integration.

Delegates highly appreciated the effectiveness of cooperation between ICTU and KNU in recent years, especially in the implementation of international joint training programs. Both affirmed that they would continue to promote their respective strengths and further enhance cooperation in training high-quality human resources and developing joint research programs.

Kyungpook National University was founded in 1946 in Daegu and is one of the leading universities in Korea, with internationally recognized quality in education and research. The university currently ranks among the Top 10 national universities in Korea, the Top 200 universities in Asia (QS Rankings), and the Top 600–700 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings. Notably, KNU ranked 3rd globally in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, thanks to its outstanding contributions to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

KNU is also one of the universities receiving the largest government funding in Republic of Korea, with approximately KRW 318 billion (equivalent to nearly VND 6 trillion). In addition, the university offers many attractive scholarship programs for international students. To date, KNU has awarded KRW 75.6 billion (equivalent to nearly VND 1.4 trillion) in scholarships to more than 35,000 students, including nearly 2,000 international students.

KNU’s academic staff includes more than 1,100 professors and researchers, with a system of 22 undergraduate and 11 graduate schools, offering a wide range of programs such as engineering, computer science, business, natural sciences, medicine, and social sciences.

The cooperative relationship between ICTU and KNU was established in 2018 and has continued to develop effectively. Since 2020, the two universities have implemented the 3+1 international joint training program in Software Engineering, which has recruited five cohorts, of which two cohorts have graduated and received degrees. In addition, each year KNU provides two to four student exchange scholarships, each valued at USD 2,000, for ICTU students, while also organizing various cultural and academic exchange activities between students of the two universities.

This working session between the leadership of KNU and ICTU once again affirmed the strategic and sustainable partnership between the two universities, opening up new opportunities in education, research, and international academic exchange, thereby contributing to enhancing ICTU’s position and training quality in the process of global higher education integration.
