ICTU Students Engage in Digital Film Studio Production
The Digital Film Studio is a key model aligned with current development trends, actively promoted under the direction of Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen Province. This model has been effectively implemented through a close partnership between University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) and Cineplus.
Recognized as a leading institution in training high-quality human resources for the Northern midland and mountainous region as well as the nation, ICTU has spearheaded the development of the Digital Film Studio as part of its efforts to advance digital transformation and foster scientific and technological development in the province.
This model was a key focus during Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung’s working session with ICTU in December 2024. According to the Chairman of the People’s Committee, the implementation of the Digital Film Studio represents a breakthrough in leveraging technology and culture for economic development, serving as a catalyst for building a knowledge-based economy in Thai Nguyen. It also contributes to positioning the province as a technologically prominent standpoint in the new era.
The initial step in this collaborative venture between ICTU and Cineplus was the production of the 3D animated film Cricket: The Adventure to the Muddy Hamlet. Produced by Cineplus with the consent of the family of renowned writer To Hoai and support from Kim Dong Publishing House, the film underscores efforts to promote the still-nascent 3D film industry in Vietnam and meet the evolving preferences of audiences.
Inspired by To Hoai’s iconic literary work Adventures of a Cricket, the film presents vibrant artistic interpretations while narrating the journey of two cricket brothers, Cricket and Trui, as they navigate the perils of the Muddy Hamlet. The story celebrates friendship, solidarity among species, and resilience in overcoming challenges. Moreover, it conveys a timely message by addressing contemporary issues such as recycling and climate change.
Cineplus aims to establish an internationally recognized Vietnamese Digital Film Studio, where historical and cultural narratives are vividly brought to life. This initiative not only preserves and promotes Vietnamese cultural identity but also inspires younger generations.
Recently unveiled, the film is scheduled for public release in the summer of 2025, with projected revenues of approximately VND 40 billion. It is expected to captivate both domestic and international audiences. The event also featured the official signing ceremony for the establishment of the Digital Film Studio between Cineplus and ICTU, marking a significant milestone in their collaboration on training and workforce development for future high-tech film projects centered on Vietnamese culture and history.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia, Rector of ICTU, the film represents a meaningful achievement for both students and the university. The pilot Digital Film Studio operates under the principles of “learning by doing” and “theory linked with practice,” offering ICTU students hands-on training with leading experts in digital technology. This model equips students with practical experience, enabling them to develop market-ready products and establish a strong foundation for their future careers.
The Digital Film Studio not only attracts significant interest but also ignites creativity and passion among ICTU students, particularly in media production, theatrical films, and high-quality series. By leveraging cutting-edge global graphic technologies, the Digital Film Studio promises to invigorate Vietnam’s media and film industries while extending its influence internationally. ICTU students take immense pride in contributing their intellect and creativity to this dynamic journey of exploration and innovation.
