In the afternoon of October 30, 2019, at ICTU, a meeting was held to summarize the management of international students in the academic year 2018-2019 and implementing the tasks of the academic year 2019-2020. The Vientiane – Hanoi Technical – Vocational Friendship College (VIHATECH) delegation led by the principal Ms. Manivone Moungkhounsavath attended the meeting. As for ICTU, there were attendance of Dr. Truong Ha Hai – Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Vu Duc Thai – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector and leaders of faculties, departments, and all Lao and Cambodian overseas students studying and researching at the university.

Opening the meeting, Dr. Vu Duc Thai affirmed that the university currently has been training programs for Lao students in many fields. Dr. Vu Duc Thai emphasized that in the coming academic year, the university will have new policies aiming at helping international students promote the knowledge learned after graduation to meet the continuous development of science and technology.
An overview of the meeting
Next, participants listened to representatives of Division of Science, Technology and International Cooperation present the summary report for the academic year 2018-2019, and directions and tasks for the academic year 2019-2020. Lao students, who are studying at the university, include 27 graduate students and 57 undergraduate students. In the next academic year, the university will train 95 Lao students, including 63 undergraduate students; 24 graduate students and 8 students studying and studying Vietnamese. After that, representatives of the university’s functional divisions also spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of Lao students in the past academic year, focusing on discipline, tuition, fees, administrative procedures etc.

At the meeting, VIHATECH representative hoped that Lao students studying at ICTU would enhance their sense of discipline, comply with the university’s regulations and reminded Lao students about the procedures for visa extension. Next, the meeting discussed some recommendations of Lao students on learning environment, tuition, playgrounds and sports activities.

After the speech of the representative of VIHATECH, on behalf of ICTU, Dr. Vu Duc Thai commended and rewarded 12 Lao students for their good academic and training results in the academic year 2018-2019. The meeting also elected 6 students ( five Lao and one Cambodian students) for the liaison committee.
To sum up, Dr. Vu Duc Thai affirmed that in the coming academic year, the university would strengthen the management of international students who are studying at the university; and assist Lao students in building a playground and sport area; and direct the Lao students’ representative board to help their mates to check the fees.
